New Gauge Cluster Problem
I have an '87 I6 F150 XL, which has a standard gauge cluster with no tach. I bought a gauge cluster off of ebay from the 87-91 model years, from someone in canada (the speedo was in KM). I was able to trim the original speedo a little and everything then fit well and most of the gauges worked. However the fuel gauge did not work, at all. After some circuit board analyzing, we determined that on the new gauge cluster, the new fuel gauge needed a a processed signal (there was also a 1"x2" circuit board on the back of the new cluster), and the old cluster had no such circuit board, or processed signal. I ruled out the gauges being faulty through testing them both with the old cluster wiring.
So my dilemma is do I stick with the old cluster, is it a computer difference (does my new cluster need something that the exsiting computer doesn't send?), could I get a gauge pack that doesn't use a processed signal?, or I could be completely wrong on the processed signal theory. I have really no idea now. I'd hate to let the hours I spent on the dash go to waste, and have no tach to use. Please Help!
