complete makeover
i was just wondering if anyone here could help a man in trouble...what i got right now is a 1990 4x4 ford ranger, 2.9 5sp. pretty much stock except for the 2in. lift on the front and the 4 on the back, and the performance exhaust.....mainly was just used as a mudder...but i got thinking that i wana change it over no longer using it for hunting trips but for tearring up some ashpalt at the quarter mile. anyways i was wondering if any one had any ideas of any experience in doing this.... i pretty much want to strip it down new motor, tranny, everything else in the front and change it from a 4 wheel drive to a posi track rearend. but if any one has any information that can help or any websites or anything that'll help this along the way i'd appreciate it....thanks

Most of the guys that have what is known as a 5.0 ranger use a 305 chebby, it's not as wide as the 302, however with some hacking a 351 does fit nicely. So I would go that route. Build up a good 351, find a C4 or FMX auto to rebuild, get it built up, tell the guy at the tranny shop what you are doing he'll build it accordingly. Also talk to the local speed shops.
