I would think balancing beans would be inherently incompatible with any type of internal sensor. My RV came with internal TST band sensors, and I am sure beads would take their toll on them too. I would suggest Centramatics over tire beads.

Smile Ford OEM Trailer Camera (TPMS System)

I haven’t once used the YAW sensor, but love the camera and TPMS. It would be nice if the yaw sensor automatically came up as a jackknife detector in reverse or something. I think I might have to use the backup assist or something to get anything out of it.
Andrew8406 - does the Ford camera system display the rear-camera view while driving in the normal, forward direction?
In other words, does that camera function like a 'rear-view' mirror while towing a trailer down an Interstate Highway?

I can't seem to find details about this OEM "accessory" from Ford.

Thanks - MJP

In my ‘24, yes. I can press the camera button and have it display indefinitely. I believe it will depend on the truck more than the cameras. In the previous generation, I believe a common complaint was that it would only stay on for a short period of time. I’m able to leave it on for hours. A few posts back I posted a photo with it running along with the Picture in Picture showing down the side of the truck… I also found there is a jackknife screen, but it uses the side cameras not the back one. A decent system, maybe just behind the GM version.

one complaint I have is camera quality. I would put this on par with the bed view camera, not the backup camera. Still gets the job done though, and having a wired connection is nice.

Thanks again Andrew8406 -- I'm thinking I'll will keep the BrandMotion camper camera system on a separate monitor so I can use the in-dash display for navigation and other CarPlay apps while driving. I added the BrandMotion side-view cameras when pulling w/a 2017 F150 - the side-view cameras on the 2024 F250 that activate when I hit the turn signal are amazing - much better video quality than the BrandMotion system.

I am very curious about what you called the "jackknife" screen -- I have no idea what that is, so if you get a moment to share it would be interesting and helpful!

At some point a driver gets too much sensory overload with multiple views, video, alerts, etc. That 'too-much' threshold will undoubtedly vary between drivers...

Thanks for sharing - plus the great photos.

Sorry, didn’t hook up to my trailer till today. This is it. As you back your trailer, the graphic at the bottom moves as well and shows how close you are to jackknifing.

My experience with my '24:
I had the sensors installed, without the trailer. I don't know if they did any programming, but ai doubt it.
When I installed them onto the trailer and got it hooked up I took a short trip to wake them up and the truck picked up the signal.
Using the prompts on the screen I was able to enter the programming mode where you let ~5 lbs of air out of the tire to program the positions.

Not sure if this is specific to 23/24 years, but this is what i used on 2024 F450 Dually.Pc3t-14b242-ba (Base harness with Yaw, TPMS and Camera connectors). This harness starts with a 12 pin that mates to your bed 12pin (under the 7 pin). It has parts to replace the 7pin/flat4 connectors on the bumper to match the bed setup. You will need to run that harness onto your trailer (think of this as "jump the hitch"). With my 5th wheel, that harness was just long enough to get into front compartment; on a bumper pull trailer, it will reach to your underbelly.

HC3T-1560-AD (TPMS module) will mate to the TPMS connector on base harness.
Now comes the sensors. My F450 has "non steel" wheels and requires a special sensor. As you did not specify your rig, tough to suggest.

About Yaw: I believe if you have a bumper pull, you still use the checkerboard stickers and the tailgate camera, so no harness is needed.
On a 5th wheel, you need the Yaw sensor and housing ( Yaw Sensor Housing: Lc3t-14h150-aa, Yaw Sensor: hu5t-14g551-a) and the module plugs into same base harness.

If you don't connect a camera, to base harness, leave the jumper plug in so the trucks computer does not complain.
Option B is to call Bryan (Nichols Manufacturing in Phoenix) and he will provide harnesses, parts and impart a plethora of knowledge.

Good luck.

Trailer TPMS re-connect question

2024 F250 KR

I successfully completed the installation and trained the system to recognize the wheel-mounted sensors.

However, when I disconnect and then later re-connect the 7-pin and TPMS/camera (12-pin?) the trailer tire pressure remains blank - “- -” lines for each wheel.

How long does it take the truck system to “re-connect” and read tire pressure and temperature?

Do I have to hook-up and pull my camper for a certain period of time or distance?

Usually just have to roll 100 foot or so is all. It’s normal.

Interesting, I wouldn't have thought of that.

That said, I got a strange look when I insisted to the tire shop to balance my trailer tires......"ugh, we don't usually do that", well why the heck not.

Ok I am going to add the TPMS to my horse trailer. My new truck is a 2024 Platinum 450 that came with the harness for the Yaw sensor box I believe so do I need to purchase the entire TPMS kit from Ford or just the sensors? I assume the TPMS module connects to the Yaw/Blis module to the harness once mounted to the trailer. Not a lot of documentation online.

You need the entire kit. You just buy individual sensors when you have more than 4 wheels to monitor that the kit includes sensors for. The TPMS harness will connect in to the yaw sensor harness if you are using the pro trailer backup assist.

I’ve read the thread but I’m still not understanding. If I want to simply read tire pressure/ temp., do I just purchase the sensors and have them installed? The truck can read them once activated? I did this on my last GM and it was simple. My truck is a XLT Premium, if it makes a difference.

No. You need the sensors, the module you mount on the a-frame of your trailer that reads/receives the signal from your trailer TPMS sensors, and pushes that info via 12-pin harness into the 7/12-way connector mounted in your bumper. The truck reads the trailer TPMS info from there and displays in your gauge cluster when selected. If your truck wasn't equipped from the factory, a dealer may need to turn on the feature for you, or maybe it can be done via FORScan. Of course, it may automatically work too as soon as the equipment is hooked up.

If you only want trailer TPMS, this is the bare-bones minimum kit you need: https://nicholsmanufacturingandweldi...4-tpms-sensors

I installed the TPMS (no trailer camera) last year. It is a simple install and setup but it is a bit pricey if you have multiple trailers. I really wish Ford would locate (or preinstall) the TPMS receiver in the truck so you only needed to add the tire sensors. I believe this is how Ram does it. Adding trailers easier and cheaper if you just need to buy tire sensors.
