i have talked to a few people about having some head work done on my f150's 4.6l heads. doing thing like port, polished, cams, valves and valve springs. most people said if i was going to do all that then just buy a set of performance heads that already have all that done to them. my question is can any tell me who make performance heads for my truck? also will be be less to have my heads reworked with the above equipment? thanks for any info. plus does any know how much or a range of hp this will add to my truck? like at lest this or as much as on the hp question.
There really isn't much out there in the way of aftermaket heads yet. There are a few camshafts now. CompCams has a couple available.
Get a Muscle Mustangs and Fast Ford's magazine. There are a lot of good ads in them for Modular engine performance. The heads are the same on the 4.6 car, 4.6 truck and 5.4 truck. Even the camshafts are the same.
I think that just the cam change is worth about 10 or 12hp if I remember correctly from an article where the magazine changed the cams in a 1999 4.6 Mustang GT.

i have been told that with a port and polish around 15hp, new cam 10 hp, and valve spring 5 to 7 hp. i just though it would be faster and easier to just buy new heads but i have been getting the same response is i have to have mine redone. thanks for the info. i have put up a few of those mags but it has 90% mustangs and 10% other trucks and cars. i will pick one some time and call a few place to see if here is any out there that we don't know about. if i find any thing i will let you know.
Yeah, most adds are for the mustangs, but like I said, the heads are the same so if it is a good head for a Stang, it will work on the truck too.

Buying heads will just cost you $900-1200 extra than just sending off your heads to get worked over. Foxlake, Steen Racing, Power Heads just to name a few who specialize. A Stage 1 job from most of these companies offer 50hp gains. I'm still looking for the company but the have a $450 Stage 1 package that looks like a darn good deal...
Also depends on what year f-150 you have........do you have the pi heads or the non-pi heads.......99+ have pi heads.....if you have non-pi heads you can swap to a set of pi heads and intake and gain 40-60hp depending if you do anything to them
Some companies even have some heads that say if you swap from a non-pi head to there performance heads you'll gain 100+ hp..........I'll have to dig up there web site.......If i find it I'll post it
No matter what you do get ready to spend some SERIOUS MONEY to get an additional 20 to 50 HP out of the 4.6. In a pickup you biggest problem is lack of TORQUE and the heads that most places offer add little. Adding 100+ horsepower to an older 4.6 with over hauling the entire engine doesn't sound like such a wise mover either.
i have a 2001 f150. i will like to new what would be a wise move to make on my truck. i am not going for a beast, just something with a little more bit. the way i see it. i got my truck for 20k brand new. a lighting is around 30k. i can spend(over time) 10k and not get bent over. if you know what i mean. getting the head reworked will run about 1500 to 2000. i can get an ati procharger for about 3500. have already done about 1000. to her. that will leave about 3500 i can spend. i will have about 300 to 340 hp and be very happy. if you don't think so let me know. i am looking any and all input as to what i sould do the my truck. this is not something i want to do over night so think long term.
