i have a 01 f150 4.6 that i am looking at adding cams. the only thing is i want to add a supercharger. i just don't understand what the differences between performance cams and blower performance cams. to invest in cams to have to change them later would is a wast of time. so if any of you supercharger guy know the difference please inform my. thanks
Most blower cams are made with tight centerlines/minimum overlap. That way you don't loose the boost that you are trying to create/use. Most high horsepower cams have wide centerlines and a lot of overlap(to use the moving velocity of the escaping air to help pull air into the cylinder). This is NOT needed or wanted in a blown/turbo motor. It is being force fed the air, and if the valves are both open then the air you are forcing in will just blow out the exhaust.
also if you know. the cams i was looking at were comp cams xe262ah. there power band is from around 1400 to 5500. they work with 3.73 gears and stock computer. they are mild by what i have learned about them. if they are mild cams, will they work with a blower later on? i am have trouble finding blower cams for my truck.
It would probably be best to ask Comp tech support about whether or not thier cam is suitable for forced air. If its not, I know that Crane and Crower make 4.6/5.4 blower cams (although I think the Crower one is race only.)
i am looking for about 350 rwhp. i just don't want to shoot myself in the foot. get the blower and end up with around 300. when the cams may have given it to me.
pyrobob- i will look into crane and report back when i have the time.
