How do I remove this

How do I remove this? Got scratched so just going to try and do some vinyl wrap myself. Don't have to remove it I guess but I also debated painting it so if I paint it, still want to know how to remove it.

Do you have a factory tailgate step?

If it was my truck, which it isn’t, I would get some touch up paint and call it a day. You may be surprised how well they work. Plus the tail gate seems to be the part of the truck most prone to scratches, IMO.

1. Touch up paint, wet sand, polish.
2. Put a decal over it, like a flag.
3. Do nothing and you'll stop noticing it in a week or two.

Remove tailgate panel.
deploy step
Then you have access to the wiring and attach hardware.
3rd or 4th.. touch it up...it's going to get dinged many times.
It's a magnet for scratches

I would get a paint-to-match rattle can (a local auto/paint shop can make a can for you, using your truck's paint code) then sand the scratches/gouges, tape off the area, dust some paint on it, dust a top coat / clear coat, and be done. You'll never notice it. Simple to do.

I know I could paint but more effort than it's worth. Wrapping I could do with it attached but if it's quick to remove then might be easier plus making it black vinyl could look decent so trying that first

Nope. Wrapping is a lot more work than using a touch-up pen. That is a 2 minute job once you get the touch-up pen, or brush bottle, which ever you like. Also, this is just the first time, so the touch-up will come in handy in the future.
