Interchange 8 stud wheels Ford Dodge Chev
I am finding it difficult to purchase a new set of early pattern F-250 8 stud steel wheels here in Australia.
I recently purchased 6 brand new 16 x 7-inch wheels sight unseen; however they turned out to be late model 1999 on wheels and appear to be OEM Ford Brazil according to box markings.
My question is: will late model Dodge or GM 8 stud rims suit my 1976 High Boy, that is currently undergoing a full chassis up restoration.
i understand they retained the same stud pattern as the pre-1999 -2005 Ford trucks.
thanks in advance for credible advice!
Ross.
As far a chevy and Dodge Ram rims fitting, the issue is the center hub (center bore) diameter. I understand that Ford has the biggest center bore requirement, so some chevy rims might not fit because they have a smaller center bore. But up to 2009 Dodge Rams 3/4 rims should fit older Ford truck.
And making sure you get the correct style of rim as in Hub centric and or lug centric. You want lug (nut) centric rims. Here are some Dodge rims on a ol High Boy.
The other problem with later wheels of other manufacture is the back spacing, or offset. if you can't find the correct wheels you'd be best off buying a new set , there are 100 aftermarket options or you can buy reproduction steel wheels in and width you want.
OK on the Dodge rims, here in Australia, new Dodge, GMC, Chevy and Ford F-250/350 are imported new left-hand drive then remanufactured in aftermarket conversion plants here in Australia with body off right hand drive modified to suit our design rules.
They are sanctioned by the American manufacturers to remanufacture them.
So new styles of wheels 2005 on are available however older F250 patterned wheels are as far as I can find here are no longer available.
Importing from USA or Canada is super expensive on freight, up to $1200 for four rims,
Noted on the offset difference, presently my wheels are a set of the original High Boy split rims 16.inch and some two wheel drive 16 inch std rims.
I also have a nice set of Budd 16.5 x 8 inch however the only 16.5 tyres available are Bobcat style skid steer tyres not road rated.
I can easily open up a steel centre rim from a GM if I can find some, so will look for some Dodge and Chev wheels.
Thanks for your prompt advice, regards Ross.
