I just wanted to give a shout out to this company for making a solid product and fixing a problem that shouldn't even exist on a $95k MSRP vehicle. Our trucks should have locking fuel doors (maybe fixed on the '23+ models, idk) but this is the next best thing. The caps are very well made and there's not a lot of plastic b.s. on them. They're expensive as hell but replacing my injectors because some a-hole doesn't like me or my truck is a lot more expensive.
Edit- amazon link isn't working. Theyre locking fuel caps made by BEM auto
yeah, i balked at the price tag too but I leave my truck for days at a time at trailhead and I'm always worried someone might mess with it. I can't believe ford doesn't have locking fuel doors
Yeah, I think the pair for previous gens are a little less, like $140. They have gone up compared to what they sold for years ago. There is only one other company that I know of selling locking fuel and def caps for these trucks, they go for even more $ if you can believe that....not by a little bit.
I purchased one when they came out with the fuel cap but they did not have anything available for the DEF so I made my own. I would say the biggest issue you might have would be fuel theft so if someone really wants the fuel, they are going to punch a hole in the tank, take what they can carry, and let the rest run out. I have not heard or read about anyone getting anything poured into their tank in a long time.
I can open it with out the key.....the system just uses a screw...no real key and cylinder system.
once after a fill up I used their key to tighten.....drove a few hundred miles and when I went to fill again...I open the door and the BEM cap fell to the ground.
For my 22 I ended up sticking with my Stant locking cap and am just using the BEM DEF locking cap. I ordered the set on Amazon, which came to $201 after shipping and taxes. I ended up reaching out to BEM and expressed that I really only wanted the DEF cap. They were kind enough to let me return the Diesel cap and they refunded some of my money back. Honestly, I prefer the Stant cap over the BEM cap. It feels more normal and somehow easier to use, although neither will keep someone out of the tank if they want in (and if they want the fuel, they will just puncture the tank and drain it), however, the Stant cap is a fraction of the price and just as secure. I wish Stant made locking DEF caps, which I would have picked up. As for the BEM caps, they are nice, and props to the owners of a small, USA made product that saw a need and met it. I just wish that something so simple weren't so expensive. Anywho, another thing I like about the 2 different locking caps is that I have to be intentional about which one I open depending on if I am filling with diesel or with DEF!

I bought a truck once that had that cap.
the seller did not have the key
I googled how to hack the cap and wound up at a you tube video......1.5 inch wood screw...insert the screw at a 45 degree angle...once the screw builds friction...remove the cap. it worked perfectly and took 30 seconds.
but your fuel is safe....you cant gat a hose into our tanks...some type of trap prevents that.

not really a wiz bang product in my mind.
Have same on y 21'. Haven't had the cap fall off yet but tightened to much when I first got them and it took a minute to get it back off. Of course I was somewhere out of state and realized then and there I better not lose the keys. Lol.
When you unlock (unscrew) without the key do you use a tool?

Watch the Lockpicking Lawyer and you'll get the idea of how easy it is to break into anything with a lock on it... Whether it's a locking fuel door or a fuel cap, they are simply a deterrent. If someone is determined enough to walk around with screws and a driver, or other things to bust into a fuel tank, then it won't matter which cap you have on it. And I didn't opt for a locking cap to keep people from taking the fuel out of the tank. If they want to do that they will just stab a hole in the bottom of the plastic tank and drain it. Instead, they are simply to keep people from deciding on a whim from adding things into the fuel tanks that I would be most concerned about. The Stant cap works fine for that.
