Forgive my squirrelly ignorance but are FE exhaust bolt patterns the same across all years and models (outside specials of course) or are there some years that are grouped separately? I'm looking to get some shorty headers for a 360 on a 74 F100, from what I've read I don't want to deal with fitment and possible starter issues with long headers, and the closest I can find that I'm getting a "guaranteed fit" are the FF427 but they're not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking to get a new piping kit and mufflers the same time I get the headers and just fab it all up. In my quest for shorties I've found a bunch on the interwebs that say they're for cars either before 67 or from 67+ but if they're short headers and I'm planning on running all new pipe anyway and don't care if I route it out in front of the wheels will it really matter if they're not "supposed" to be for the truck? Same block, so they should bolt on, right? Will any of the pre-67s work or do I have to make sure it's 67+?
Even though the exhaust port exits themselves are all the same on the FE there are several FE exhaust bolt patterns. FT engines have the center exhaust crossover port. The original up and down pattern, the angled CJ pattern and the 390 GT which look like the original except that the top end bolts are in a different(lower) position. As far as I know the pickup trucks all used the original straight up and down bolt pattern. But heads can be changed over the years so you have to check it out.
