Hey guys, both exhaust manifolds are broken on my 69 F100, I think Im going to switch to headers, should I go full length? or not? And would 2"1/2 pipes be good? Also what are the best bang for your buck headers? Ive seen some in LMC truck catalogs but Im sure if there is better out there you guys with know. Let me know what you guys think, thanks!
Yes, go with the full lenght and a 2 1/2" exhaust. I use the long headers on my 66 F100 4x4 with a 390 engine. I do not know a good brand to recommend, the ones on my truck are out of production for a long time. But get some with good thick flanges and a good gage pipe. And maybe with a good coating on them. Mine have been on the truck for 30 years with no problems.

I have the same truck and i'm running headers as well. Are you running chassis exit headers by chance so i don't have to pull the header and motor tower just to get the starter out?

Mine are full length headers that stay in between the frame. I did not have to do anything but remove the starter and clutch assembly to install the headers. By far one of the easiest things I have ever done.
I just put new headers on mt 76 ford f150 4x4. Like it was said above starter and clutch linkage had to be dropped. I put a set of flow tech headers on my truck. My brother works at O'Rielly's and gets a good deal on them. We ordered 3 sets we have 2 390's on both we ran into the same problem they hit the block on the drivers side where the oil pan meets the block. We sent the first back to the company not knowing why. The other two sets did the same. So that sucks but I made them work. They only cost 118 for both sides and I can deal with the problems for the price.
I have a 76 f100 with a 360 or 390. All of the headers I have seen say they won't work on the 4x4. Anyone know which ones will
When I put my newest set on the 390 I never had any trouble with it being a 4x4 they matched right up and never got in the way, other than one tube hit the block. More or less you just have to get a set and see what it looks like and go from there.
We are building up a 71 429 to put into a 75 f250 highboy and well lets just say it is hard to find headers that fit both. So we are just going to get a set that is close do a little bit of persuading.

It's been a while since this post but if you're still searching just go on summit racing's website, there are a handful of sets to choose from there. That is where I got my set.
I have Hooker Headers on my truck, they've got thick flanges and fit nicely with the 4X4, and don't hit the block. I'm not sure exactly which model they are, but it shouldn't be hard to find. They're 2 1/2 inch collectors, full length, and i think they're 1 3/4 inch primaries...
