My speedo cable twisted and broke today. I'm not sure what cable it is but I pulled out the inner part and it was twisted. The cable was in the truck when I got it but I don't think it was an original. It has a screw on end at the trans and a push on at the speedo.
I have a stock cluster with a C6 trans. I think the cable should have screw on ends on both sides. I'm not sure what size they are.
I assume it would be smarter to replace the full cable, inner and outer. I found this but I don't know if it is correct.
Before we start throwing money and parts at it, it might be a good idea to investigate why the cable broke. Where along the length of the cable did it break? Is there an issue with the cable housing that caused the cable to come apart? Is it too short/long or kinked in any way? Was it lubed properly? You mentioned a possible issue with the ends. Is that resolved? We want to make sure if you just stuff a new cable in the sheath that this won't happen again.
C6 transmissions I've been around didn't use a screwed on end. They had a plug and o-ring with the gear clipped on the end, and a retainer holding it in place by a bolt going into the side of the trans case. You may want to take everything apart and investigate thoroughly what you have before making any buying decisions. Sometimes buying something off the shelf or the internet isn't your best avenue to success. There may be a local shop that can custom make a cable to your needed length with the correct ends that would serve you for a lifetime.
