Hi all,ive replaced the manual transmission in my 66 with a c6,the c6 has a different speedo cable lnput than the manual trans its also on the other side.the origonal cable is too short, what cable should i get to replace it
I don't know if this will trigger any ideas but I used to replace accelerator cables on old cars with motorcycle cables. An MGB I had needed a cable quickly and I used a bicycle brake cable.

Reason: Sorry. Speedo not accelerator
Those cables are readily available from Carpenter, NPD etc. and even the parts houses. Just look for one for a truck F100/250/350, 1968-1972 with a C6 transmission.
Don't forget to get the correct speedo gear for your rear end ratio and tire diameter while you are at it.
Yes, I have a 70' c6 in a 65' F250 I've ordered the cable for a 70' from Napa and it fits fine I believe it's 82-83 inches long. If your speedometer is off I don't know where you can fimd the gear for that c6 I haven't been able to locate any.
If your speedometer is off, I don't know where you can find the gear for that c6 I haven't been able to locate any.
You can get those gears at your local Ford dealer or NPD, Carpenter. If you need a 21 tooth this is one of the few places that have them. Ford Automatic Transmission Speedometer Driven Gears (transmissioncenter.net)
My c6 has a metal gear and shaft, The end of the shaft is a square hole where the end of the cable goes into. It doesn't look anything like advertised speedo gears
Mine is the same metal shaft and drive it appears that lmc may have the right cable for 9.95 but with $70 freight $14 tax on top i would like to be sure its the right cable.that equals about $170 in our currency
I see now you have the short cast iron tail housing. Good luck finding parts for that. Ford only used that for a few years like 68-70. You can try an advanced search using Number Dummy as the username. I'm sure he posted part numbers for those parts in the past.
I've ordered the cable from both Rock Auto and Napa. Rock is a pioneer brand and I don't remember what Napa was. Napa brand seemed a bit better made and was about $30. Napa is part# BK6151606 and is 87 inches long for a 1970 F250. Both brand cables fit fine but one was ruined by melting the casing on the exhaust. I don't know where you live but these cables can't weigh much more than a pound for shipping purposes. Both my column and trans came out of a 70' and as Crop Duster said this is the short tail c6 made for use with the two piece driveshaft.
I was referring to the drive and driven gears more than the cable as being hard to find. Here is a thread to read thru. It's old and who knows if any of the parts ND posted are still out there. But short of switching to a later aluminum tail housing that uses the nylon gears this is it. Speedometer gears - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)
