ECT Codes thrown replaced what now
My car has throw two codes (P0117, P1290). These point too the ECT sensor which I have already replaced. The Symptoms of my truck are the Coolant temp sensor coming on and off. Whenever it comes on my dial will either go all the way down or all the way up. Whenever it goes up my truck goes into limp mode and will not go out. The sensor usually goes off when idle or in low rps. I have replaced the alternator (with a high output 200 amp) as well for fear that my sound system (replaced stock speakers, and added two tens. The amps are 800w and 1200w) was killing the old one thus messing with my cooling system.
I am wondering if it is a wiring issue and how I would go about testing it. I was thinking of going to the pcm to test it but what would I do over there just found the diagram and the pin to test it.
That is the book answer
Practical answer and what most dealership technicians will do is plug in a NGS and check a few PIDS
Checking a few PIDS is easy with a generic scan tool, but most will only read about 40 out of 329 PIDS
The CHT pid should be there on just about every cheap scan tool
Read through the pinpoint tests available on ALLdata at your library free or buy a 2000 PCED (costly)
