Hi, I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd 7.3. The PCM box is bad. Since I have larger injectors with a custom tune can I use any 7.3 PCM box since I will be installing a custom tune on it? Or do I have to have one that matches my tag number? If I am buying a new one what brand should I use? thanks in advance for any advice
Pretty sure if you want all the bells a whistles to work the PCM needs to match what it came with. You might try messaging these folks through their website. They can definitely answer any PCM questions you have and maybe even repair yours.

What is your current PCM? Do you have a glow plug relay or a glow plug module? 2000 can be either. Is your PATS still intact?
It has the glow plug module...as far as I know it has the PATS....Im trying to find my notes for the PCM number...can it be seen in the truck without removing it?? thanks, Ron
I finally found my notes and YES you are correct it is DPC-452. The problem that I have is I was pulling a heavy trailer and everything was working perfectly...I stopped for gas and just for the hell of it, I checked my codes on my TORQUE plug in and a few normal codes were there...so I cleared the codes. Left the gas station and 1 block later my 1st gear on my auto trans. was 98% dead...If I put it in 2nd gear it will drive ok and shift to 3rd, then I can manually shift to 4th gear...but if I leave it in "D" when I come to a stop I have to manually place it in 2nd gear again..Needless to say, I had to park the trailer and cancel my Dallas trip and limp it home. .I am not driving the Excursion now until I fix it...then I will sell it soon, since I have a new truck. I originally thought that maybe the shift solenoids were bad..but no tranny codes came up on the Snap On Scanner...just the PCM code. By the way I have a John Woods Auto Trans. with a larger cooler and MagHyTec bigger alum pan and the trans. does not have very many miles on it since being freshened up. I am open to any and all ideas to fix the problem, just hoping that I don't have to pull the trans. and spend thousands of dollars. thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Have it diagnosed BEFORE you spend an extra grand on a PCM that likely isn't the problem.
I assume that you tried manual first as well with the same result of first being "98% dead". If that's the case, you have a transmission issue as the PCM has no control over M1 since it's hydraulically controlled through the manual valve on the transmission.
