Crusty Cab

Made the mistake of leaving my 70 F250 CS stored outside for too long. Got some rust perforations on both sides under the drip rails and the cab mounts and parts of floor are bad. Looking for some opinions on what to do. I’m not opposed to diving in and welding but I’m thinking getting a cab from the SW would be better if I can find one. Otherwise it’s a good running 390 .030 over recently refreshed with newer C6 new exhaust & brakes.

Replace the cab mounts, patch the rest and go! :-)

...then again, I am always for fixing, rather than replacing, but being over here in Sweden, I don't really have the option :-p

Thanks for your opinion Obscure. I see some really good looking old rides in Europe and I wonder how people make a go of it finding parts there. I’ m going to take a “crash” course in autobody/welding at tech. College in a couple months. Hopefully I can get good enough to make some progress. But,the parts swapper in me feels like changing out the cab would be best to get back on the road faster-if I could find one….

Are you willing to travel or have one shipped? If so here are a few options on maybe finding a good cab: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Desert Valley Auto Parts
Salvage Yard - Hidden Valley Auto Parts

I would think finding a good cab in Minnesota might be a challenge? You could also post a part wanted in the Marketplace at the top of this forum. Good Luck

You might also want to join the Minnesota Chapter of FTE and ask the members there if they know the location of a good cab for sale:

Thanks for the suggestions Green72! I can travel to get stuff. I will join the club as well. I have a decent running expedition with the HD tow pkg. I can pull a trailer with.

Will any 67-72 F series 100-350 work? I’ve heard that 67 is a bit of an odd year with some differences?

It depends on how much of a purest you are in regard to the cabs. The 1967 has the different size radio hole, and the different heater controls. There is a difference in the number of bolts that hold the in-cab gas tank in place (3 on the early trucks and 5 on the later ones). There is the difference in the location of the shoulder strap seat belt holes in the back of the cab, and the only other differences I can think of is the low hump vs high hump for the transmission. The 4 speeds and C6 transmission trucks got the removable high hump. Here is a good article that shows some of the differences thru the years. Any of the 1967 to 72 F100 / F350 cabs will interchange and bolt right up. Identifying 1967-1972 Ford Pickups - Page 2 of 2 - FORDification.com (check out both pages).

The doorhandle/locking mechanism is different on the 67, but maybe the doors from a later model can be swapped in?
