That's a handy trick using a multimeter to test the health of your coolant. For those concerned with the health of their cooling system you can always run a Zinc anode in the radiator.

Since it is the block that has issues on the 7.3 and the block is cast iron I wonder what good that cap will do. I did not see cast iron mentioned at all for things it would protect.

Using an anode protects the coolant from electrolysis. I guess magnesium is preferable to zinc. Here's a good thread, I didn't look to see if it was mentioned before on FTE or OBs.

Take a look at the galvanic scale. Iron is more noble than aluminum. I sispect that magnesium is higher than aluminum to protect your radiator. Zinc is up there too. But probably not enough for aluminum protection. Then there is pH which can get acidic. Regular changing of coolant solves that.

It's not for the block. It's to theoretically offer a sacrificial part instead of the radiator sustaining damage. All the articles I've read regarding electrolysis and coolant make reference to aluminum parts being damaged. Heater cores and radiators are usually mentioned as victims of electrolysis. More frequent coolant changes and flushes would seem to help as well.
