I'm brother has a F250 4x4 6.8L V10, He installed a Flowmaster 50 series muffler and didn't like the sound of it. 2 weeks later he took off the muffler and welded in a straight pipe. This actually sounds really good. Has anyone ever done this before? and if so is it good or bad?
Good or bad, wasn't it LOUD??? Let alone the possibility of it being illegal in some states / localities / noise-ordinance areas.
I had a true dual exhaust on my '87 F350 ... no catalyst, and none was required since the truck was built for the U.S. Gov't (they never know in what country these trucks may be located, and not all countries have unleaded fuel). I had some "louder than stock" mufflers, and I grew tired of them within a year or so. My opinion is that quiet power is more impressive than making a bunch of noise. But if he likes it loud, good for him ... just don't come through my neighborhood at full throttle (ha-ha).
