Just wanted to make a thread so someone else can find this in the future online. I have a 2019 F-250, about 90k miles and it was making an audible clunk / lurch noise when putting it into drive and/or giving it some throttle from a stop in drive/reverse. I dropped the drive shaft and regreased the part that slides into the transfer case. I mean absolutely coated in grease, when I pulled it out it looked like it had one drop of oil on it. It was almost dry to the touch. When I bolted the driveshaft back in, absolutely silent and no more noises in the drive train. I thought it was the rear differential (terrifying to me if that was the case), but turned out to be a bone dry drive shaft. Hopefully this helps someone else in the future. Only about a $12 fix for some new drive shaft bolts (one time use in my opinion) and some grease.
There are many threads on this but nothing wrong with a fresh thread. Known issue/ fix. Glad you figured it out without having to waste extra time and money at a shop.
So Rooster just to be clear when you initially pulled the yoke from the rear of the transfer case it was bone dry or after you heavily greased it you then pulled it back out and it was bone dry?
I’m assuming…it was initially bone dry you then greased it heavily and reinstalled which resolved your problem.

Hey Mike, it was dry when I pulled it out the first time. Barely had one drop of oil on it. Greased it all up, shaft and inside insert, noise all gone.
