2008 F150 Various Issues

So I recently purchased a 2008 F150 with the 4.6 engine and I'm having a few issues. When I first got the vehicle the engine ran like crap. I had poor acceleration, engine was surging and shuttered badly. I fixed that by replacing both upstream O2 sensors. One was reading no volts but with 180k miles I figured why not replace both. Engine runs much better, but it randomly stalls at idle. My check engine light is on but the only codes popping up are P0172 System too rich bank 1 and P0175 System too rich bank 2. The EGR valve, MAF sensor, both upstream O2 sensors and all plugs were replaced. What's the best way to troubleshoot this? I have a decent Innova scanner as well as a Ford VCM 3 scanner and Ford IDS software. I'm sure the Ford scanner would help the most but I'm not very proficient with it.

I'm also having a problem with the dome light turning on when it feels like it when opening either door. The Instrument cluster is giving me a B2659 Courtesy Switch Fault. Where is this switch located? The door ajar lights work fine so I'm assuming they must use 2 seperate switches.

Lastly I'm not sure if the air bags work at all. When I start the car the airbag light almost never comes on when all the other dash lights come on. The restraint module has 2 codes B1869 Lamp Air Bag Warning indicator circuit failure and B1318 battery voltage low. The battery is less than a year old and the voltage is definitely not low. All the fuses are good and the passenger air bag light does come on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sean, welcome to FTE.

Possible cause of what you described: It is very common for this generation truck to foul 1 (or both) of the converters. Part of that issue could have been caused by another some what common issue where 1 or more injectors are leaking.

There are lots of ways to test these or at least see if the data suggests a further look. Since I can only guess what is available on your scan tools, I would look for something that monitors injector cycle, or even a virtual compression contribution graph. This could point you to cylinders that are having issues. Then there is always the "hard way". If you pull the fuel rails + injectors, put them on some newspaper/paper bags & just key on to prime the injectors, you shouldn't see any leakage. As for the converters, I am sure your tools can give you live data that will show the converter temps. But that only really tells you what the temp is at the O2 sensor & not intake temp vs exit temp. You can use an IR temp gun to check directly at the front & back of the converter. I would say visual inspection is a good to check out the front of the converter but they are a %^!@#* to get out

I am not that great at electrical / wiring but your light issue sounds like a corroded ground connector.

The cats are not the problem because the truck has none. One of the previous owners had them removed. Not sure why but it's just a straight pipe. The Ford IDS software can monitor just about everything. I'm gonna see what it see with the injectors.

I think your airbag light and ghost dome are the solder connections on the IC.

Next time you get a ghost dome try hitting the dash above the cluster and I bet you can (temporarily) affect it.

My '07 XL cluster never had the airbag light work, but once I swapped in an XLT cluster for the tach, it was there. The only reason I ever wanted the airbag light was to disable the nanny state seatbelt chime.

The only reason I care about the airbag light is because I want to know the system is working. I'm familiar with the problem with the IC and hitting it doesn't fix it. I've had the IC out so I could replace all the lights wth LEDs. As for the dome light I just want to know where the switch that controls it is. There's a switch on the half back door on the bottom but pressing it doesn't do anything or either door. I know it's not for the door ajar light because that works and pressing it doesn't turn it on or off.
