I'm looking at truck for sale with a suspicious carfax. Carfax flagged it as being rollback.
I've read this is possible.
Two questions
Would they succeed in changing what the pcm shows? I understand it's possible they don't match.
But the engine hrs do jive with the kms.
So is the dash reading what's in pcm for that?
I've read nothing about changing the engine hrs on the display.
If you know something
Thanks.
Actually I worked it out compared to a friend's 17.
If it had the odometer changed by 32,000km like it appears. The km/hr comes out almost the same as my friends.
Something is fishy.
Even if you belive the number, and buy the truck, and there's no issues, the carfax will show as being rolled back when you go to sell it. Not worth the hassle.
I installed an upgraded cluster in my 2016 Transit Connect. I was able to roll the odometer forward with Forscan to indicate the actual mileage (upgraded cluster had less miles). All other modules and indicators in Forscan showed the new mileage. Some folks suspect the PCM has a hidden data register that holds the mileage independently from any cluster change. I also think this is likely but have never seen way to view it if it exists
Could have been a defective cluster. Could have been a Canadian truck that had the cluster replaced to sell inn the US.
I think it's not common for the cluster to be replaced when it crosses the border. Canada exports tens of thousands of used trucks into the USA every year, and this is not a widespread issue.
