Ok so I had a post awhile back and fixed the issue. But since then I've replaced packs and plugs, maf and filter, starter and solenoid, cam and crank placement sensors. Before I swapped all that it had a issue were it would crank but not always start. So I figured it was logical to run through everything that could cause those symptoms. But what I didn't realize is the Pat's system is blinking like a sob. If I put the key on it blinks like crazy for about a min then will stop and blink once followed by 6 blinks. When I hook up my scanner I saw no power to the PCM. My question i guess is these. Can a PCM be wearing out where it would work sometimes and then other not. Can a PCM cause the Pat's to freak out. And is there a way to bypass the Pat's or reset it or something, to where if I get a new PCM I know I won't be running into the same issue.
Yeah, the first step is to perform a Diagnostic Troubleshooting Code (DTC) scan with a good scan tool, like FORScan to see if that is providing any clues on where to look next.
If you have an intermittent PCM power issues, I can see where that would cause problems. One thing to consider is water damage to the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), which is part of the 'fuse panel' under the steering wheel. Fuse #2 (IIRC) is for the PCM. The PATS codes are also stored within this GEM. If the GEM is acting wonky then it could certainly affect PATS. The GEM is known for having a sneaky water intrusion issue that goes UNNOTICED due to leaks from windshield frame. Many people didn't even know they had a leak until these electrical gremlins show up!
Intermittent PATS and PCM power-up problems are often caused by a flaky PCM Power Relay. Swap it with an identical relay that is not essential to engine operation to test. MARK THEM FIRST!!!
