I had a low pressure alarm on one tire yesterday, stopped and aired it up to match the rest of the tires. I drove about 30 miles, speeds from 40 to 70 and the alarm did not clear. Does this mean the sensor may be defective? I thought the alarm is supposed to clear after a few miles with proper pressure.
if I need to replace the sensor, is there any way to tell which frequency sensor I have without breaking down the tire? I’ve got a reset tool on order, so will try that just in case.
If it is the '19 in your signature the battery may be dead. Lots claim 5-7 years of battery life on the sensors, i am at 7 on one set of wheels and 3 on the other. I plan to change the older set this spring/summer when I change tires. 1 set is oem, the newer was bought pre programed on Amazon and just have to be connected with a cheap ~$10 tool from Amazon.
I plan to go a different route next time as I work on friends and family vehicles and want to upgrade to a better tool and more universal sensors that are un programmed.
Is the sensor in that position giving a reading at all? If not the sensor needs to be replaced. They’re at the age of failure. If the rest are original they’ll probably follow shortly. I have a set of 2019 wheels on mine and have replaced all four TPMS sensors within the last year or so.
Any tire shop should have the correct one. The frequency did change in 2023. I don’t remember the frequencies off hand.
The sensor is reading 59 psi. It went into alarm at 50 psi, aired it up to match the rest of the tires at 59-60 psi. Finished my trip including about 10 minutes of 70 mph. Never cleared.
You might try airing it up to the max cold pressure on the sidewall then letting it back down to the pressure you want to run. If I remember correctly once it alarms it won't read until a threshold is met closer to65 or 70 psi. I run 80 in mine so not sure of that pressure.
