I just changed the heater core on my 98 F150. Since I put everything back together after taking the entire dash off I am having problems with the alarm sometimes not setting when I click the remote. Normally I hear a chirp and the doors unlock when I hit the remote, now sometimes the doors unlock and there is no chirp, then when I try to start the car it wont.
if it is a aftermarket alarm. open the door. hit buttom 1 then 2 then 1 again. close the door and try it. if it is a dei product it will be alright. let me know what happens.
most remotes have two to four buttons. button 1 is top left and button two will be top right. if a three button the second row will only have one button and it will be number three. if a four button then the second row left is three and right is four. the advice above is if it is an aftermarket alarm that is made by dei. and as homer said if something is not loose. the only reason i don't think something is loose is because it locks and unlocks just does not act like an alarm. it is acting like a keyless entry. dei alarm are viper, hornet, automate, valet, and about two or three more that i can't remember there names. so if it is one of these then it is in want is called valet mode. you can take it in and out of valet mode by the procedure i list above.
make sure the door is open and you hit the buttons in the order of one, two, one. then close the door. then just alarm the alarm as if it was ok. if it works it will be just as if nothing ever happpen.
sorry to say it didnt work.....the alarm doesnt always arm or disarm when the alarm button is pressed. maybe it is a loose wire? any other suggestions?
the only other other thing i can think of is for you to give the model number of the keyless entry. but when you push the buttons in the order is stated the doors lock, then unlock and then they do nothing. with the model number of the alarm i can make a call to dei and see if it is defective or some other problem.
