Hey everyone , I have a 1992 f150 with a 5.8l, couple weeks ago I changed the thermostat and it was working for a couple days then one day my temp gauge wouldn’t move at all and I had no heat in the truck, when I opened the rad cap after starting up the truck , the water pump was already moving water through out the radiator , I’m kinda lossed hoping someone can help me out on here, cause to me it sounds like a stuck therm
does the sending unit have and effect on temp for the heat in the truck, thought it was just wired into the gauge, also topped off on coolant
No, it controls the gauge, which yours doesn't seem to work.
The heater core is always flowing coolant, it could be low, or there's air trapped in it. Maybe your radiator cap isnt functioning properly, or the hose to the reservoir is blocked. Verify the blend door is working as well.

Good chance the new thermostat is stuck open, that can happen if there was an air pocket in the coolant that allowed a momentary overheat or if the stat was faulty.
Did you use a "fail safe" thermostat?
I have had bad luck with those Fail-Safe thermostats, doing exactly what yours has done
They get overheated once and then stick open
They overheat once during the initial warmup period even if the motor is absolutely full of coolant has been my experience
I will not install one of those Fail safe branded ones anymore
Fun stuff

^^^ I used a “Fail-Safe” thermostat once. It worked for about two weeks. Never again.
