Ok another issue in my project. I resolved the carb issue and I want to send my thanks to all you for helping me. I was able to get the kick down working once the engine warms up. I seen in another thread about a issue breaking the tube for the heat riser and I just bought a generic kit for under twenty buck that attaches to the manifold and has the tube and all.
Back to my next problem. I took my dad to get a load of wood and on my way back the temperature gauge went all the way over to hot. Normally it runs just to the beginning of normal. I have a 390 in my 79 and have a four core radiator. Is it the water pump, thermostat, or radiator pressure cap? No noise from the water pump nor was any water steaming out. I'm really confused. Any ideas?
I have a similar issue with my '69 with a 360. tested the cooling system with a thermometer that takes the place of the radiator cap. was running at the thermostat temp. of 180. My gauge is near the top of the normal range without a load on it. I am leaning towards the sending unit. Tha twill be next years task cause the truck is headed to storage for the winter.
Thanks Ben I will check into that. I only have the factory gauges but normally it runs cool. I did notice a clanking sound every now and then, it sounds like a wrench hitting against metal. It has no pattern just every once in a while. Thats why i leaned towards the water pump. However I just put a lot of money in her so I'm hoping that its the T-stat as you said. I really appriciate your help.
I'll check into the ones you posted in the morning.
Thanks again.
