I have an 02 7.3 excursion. I have 180cc injectors and put in a new fuel pump last year. I just did a bunch of work and added a cts3. My fuel pressure has been dropping off on my hotter tunes, down to 20psi, and my egts have been getting really hot 1250. A few years ago I was having fuel delivery problems so I dropped the tank. It was filled with a bunch of junk. I followed directions for a hutch mod. I started investigating and found a few things wrong. The new mod directions says to put a strainer on the bottom, I didn’t do that. How important is that? Should I drop the tank to put that on? A bigger problem is I’m seeing bubbles coming into the pre pump strainer even at idle, all the hoses are double clamped, are there any other places I can look for an air leak? On another note I noticed soot on the up pipe between the up pipe and headers. I replaced the up pipes with billowed ones. I’ve tried to re-seat it a few times and can’t get it. Are there any tricks to getting it set right?
Did you use fuel injection hose clamps when you double clamped? regular hose clamps don't clamp equally all the way around. For a strainer a lot of us use the Racor PS120 on the frame rail.
I forgot to answer your question about seating the up pipes. When I did mine I assembled everything loosely, manifold bolts, babys butt, up pipe bolts, everything loose first then snug up before final tightening. This allows a little movement so stuff can get seated properly before final tightening.
I just changed them out to injector clamps. My fuel pressure doesn’t drop below 55psi but I’m still seeing air bubbles in pre filter. The bubbles come in puffs. I have about 3/4 of a tank. When it’s almost empty I’m going to pull the tank and add the pickup foot. I’m wondering if I’m getting air in from the return somehow. Anyone that’s done the hutch mod, what was the overall length from from the lid to the bottom of the foot or pipe?
If you completely eliminate all negative pressure from you fuel supply system you will remove any chance of air intrusion into the fuel stream.
I did this job 15 years ago now and the pump still runs as strong and quiet as the day it was installed. Fuel volume test is a one gallon jug with the fuel pump running for 30 seconds.
Installed a SUMP in the bottom of the tank, no air down there ever, as long as the hoses don't develop a leak.... I bought the super expensive diesel fuel rated hose and the special Fuel Line clamps.
the normal Gear Clamps are not able to squeeze the hose equally around the full circumference.
the sump has a 1/2 inch size outlet barb, the hose is smaller, so we had to insert an adapter.
the local Advance Auto did not have 1/2 fuel line hose, and being a Sunday, we had no time to go looking around.... Dawsonville, GA is not known for having a lot of Options.

I don't see any bubbles?
If you drop the tank make sure any connections are tight. I'm an umbrella screen fan fwiw. Pics por favor.
From fuel tank mounting flange to bottom of tank is 16 inches. Trust me, I measured it just 14 years ago.
I too had problems with getting my uppies to seal, tried everything and the solution was a technical tap. Once I get everything very snug, I had to hammer on the the pass side up pipe a few times to make it seat evenly around the manifold, otherwise it was always crooked. Used a small blacksmithing hammer
udsuth78 No I replaced that with 3/8 fuel injection line. The air seems to be puffing out. I’m going to drop the tank like aawlberninf350 suggested and make sure everything in the tank is good and add the rubber foot.
Again, the only way to guarentee that air won't get into the fuel stream is if the entire system is at positive pressure. Laws of nature are unbreakable.
Couldn't open the video. A few bubbles trapped in the filter housing is normal, at least for me.
If you can actually watch air being sent into the filter I'd guess some fittings in the tank from the hutch might not be tight. I'd test this before dropping the tank by filling it with as much fuel as she'll take and see if the bubbles go away, the idea being you submerged an in the tank leak.
I didn't put the pick up foot on my hutch. One of the reasons to do the hutch is to get rid of it so it can't start breaking apart on you like many did. Maybe there's a new mod out there that I don't know about that fixes that problem.
