How to mod the fuel filler pipe

The "harpoon" mod involves dropping the fuel tank and reaching inside with some PVC pipe cutters to cut off the excessive extension of the vent pipe into the tank which is one of the causes of the problems filling the last few gallons.
That said these trucks handle truck stop pumps just fine even without the harpoon mod since it seems that truck stop pumps foam the fuel a lot less than the slower pumps. If I recall in the diesel supplement it states that it will handle up to 20GPM pumps.

Hey Stanley here is what youre looking for:
Quote:
why does my truck foam so much that I still have to put the last four gallons in at a trickle?
Crawling under the truck won't fix that, you'll have to drop the tank.
The problem with our trucks is the vent tube extends too far down into the tank (about 4"), and becomes submerged in fuel before the tank is full. Once the end of the vent goes under, the remaining air that still needs to be displaced goes out the only other avenue....the filler neck.
The fix is to reomve the fuel tank and reach in there with a pair of PVC cutters and chop all but about 1/2" of the vent tube off.
Once you put everything back together you will be able to completely fill the tank with the pump running full boogie.
This mod is commonly known as the harpoon mod, or simply harpooning the tank in the event you would like to search further on the subject.
