Hi,
My truck is a 1986 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0L 4X4 automatic, non tilt column
I bought it with no key, so I drilled out the old ignition key cylinder. and bought a dorman replacement
I spent an entire afternoon trying to get that new ignition cylinder in the housing and working properly with no success.
I've tried every adjustment possible with the brass gear and the ignition switch on the column, it's either the cylinder won't go into lock position and the key won't come out, or the cylinder won't go in. The only time I was able to get in lock and remove the key is when I put just the brass gear no bearing or ring. Ignition switch and actuator are good. What could cause that ? I think I understand how to align the whole thing (maybe not) after spending hours on it lol maybe something else I don't see is causing this ?
