I have said it before, and I will say it again. My truck hates me...
Haven't driven the truck in over a week. It has sat in the carport the entire time. I started it this morning on the way back from Walmart I stopped to check the CoP for cylinder number 4 and discovered there is no way on god's green earth I will be able to reach it. So, I decided to just warm up the engine and charge the battery since it has sat for over a week. I was greeted with the above dash lights. Normally only two are on. The brake light, and the CE light. Not only are these lights on, but on the right side of the dash the 4 hi and 4 lo lights were flashing randomly, like turn signals. There stereo will not go on. I press and hold the power button, and it comes on for a second or two, then shuts off instantly. This truck is getting worse just sitting in the carport. I don't have the money to have it checked out at the moment so it will just have to sit. I am debating whether or not I should pay the upcoming registration next month, or just sell it.
Jim
edit: I just noticed in the phot that the tach is not working even though the engine was running. PCM?
Not a lot that you can do except check for stored codes. See what the computer is reading. Maybe run the key on engine on test. See what happens with that.
That’s a lot going on Jim , the Abs light could just be wire or could be Rotor , I’d get the code again and start from there , but you might want to add some gas in that mix before heading out to far 👍, # 4 is a pita and you need a contortionist to get to it
I don't know what is going on, but a rotor going bad by just sitting 10 days doesn't sound possible. I am thinking the guy who did the brake light switch didn't hook up all the wires, and maybe a ground is not connected or loose. My roommate is sick at the moment, but when she gets better, I'll have her contact Dave and have him come out and look at it. It will not be a quick fix as other priorities (registration) are due next month. So, maybe April?
Jim, I see the battery light is on also, might be something related. The problem with new vehicles, there is a lot going on. Now if it was a 1966 F100, it would be so much easier to figure out. Although you wouldn't have AC or an FM radio.
Good morning y’all
drive it till it blows up get the insurance money and put it down on a more credible vehicle or get the truck to a good mechanic not a shade tree back yard nimwitt that thinks he can fix anything. Sorry somebody had to say it .
Since I don't have full coverage insurance on it, driving it until it blows up is not a good idea. However, that offer of $2,500 is beginning to look better and better. If I had not screwed up my credit buying that Dodge Charger, I would just use this POS truck as a down payment on a 2014 ford F-150 base model. I found two on Autotrader for 11k and 10k respectively. One has the V6 engine with 6 speed auto trans. The other one had a V8, but I prefer the V6. It just needs to haul the scooter around and would get better gas mileage. As for a mechanic, I have decided never to go to the shop on the corner again. I do know a mechanic I can trust, but he is on the other side of town, and his hourly rates would kill me. Hence, saving my money to have the work done.
