Please..Vin decode help?

Looking at this truck and its listed as a 75 C800 but I know that isnt right. They painted over most of the vin plate but the vin is D80CVV07074. It has a CAT 1160 and Alison auto trans. Not sure if its a swap or not.

D80 = C800 diesel

C = Caterpillar V-225 eight cylinder 636 CID V8 diesel, also referred to as an 1160.

V = Kentucky Truck Plant

V07074 = 1975 numerical series, probably late '74 production. The MPC, copyrighted April 1980 shows the SN range to be U80,001 to X60,000. The January 1975 dated shop manual shows V25,000 as the starting point.

175 = 175 inch wheelbase

No color code. The truck is a special order, and the color was probably part of that.

The numbers covered by the blob of paint should read "D80_" . Your GVWR does not match any of the Model Codes in the MPC, probably because of the special order.

The next batch would be the cab type, and indicate standard or custom cab.

If you clear those numbers, we can see what's indicated.

No transmission or rear axle codes. Again, those were probably part of the special order.

N = Ford 9,000 lb capacity front axle, with power steering.

28000 = 28,000 lbs GVWR

460071
46 = Indianapolis District Sales Office
0071 = Special Order Number.

This is a CDL truck. Does it have air brakes?

thank you! Makes me feel better about the truck. I thought it might have been an engine swap because of the weird paint it had on the frame around the CAT.
it does have air brakes. It’s a grain truck bed. A serious heavy duty one with that GVWR. When I go pick it up at the farm I’ll blast that paint off the tag.
