351m Rear Engine Component

Hey Guys, I am trying to figure out what this part is as I was told it needs to be replaced by a mechanic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That pipe is for the AIR system but it looks like you have a 351W not a 351M. That pipe wasn't used on a 351M.

Just order a new pipe and possibly a new one way valve to go with it
Google ford 351 thermactor air pipe between the heads
The parts stores should have them by now too
Might need a torch to heat up the threads and remove the one way valve
That will ruin the valve in some cases
At the dealer, I replaced both to prevent a recheck

For 70 bucks, I would consider finding a good one at the junkyard for 10 or 20 and get the whole thing with the valve
Course I have 2 good junkyards close and 5 within 40 miles

On a car once, I used J B Weld as a sealant and used a piece of thin stainless steel scrap, clamped in place with stainless steel zip ties and snipped ends.

This is sitting on a 79 bronco. My understanding was that these came with 351m or the 400, never thought I'd have a 351W.

I bought this off someone who bought it from the original owner in Georgia so there swap happened at some point.

Thank you for the info!

Look where the thermostat housing bolts, if to the intake manifold, it's a 351 W, if to the block, it's a 351M or 400.

351C/351M/400 series 335 engines and the old Boss 302 have 8 bolts holding each valve cover on
429/460 series 385 engines have 7
221/260/289/302/351W small blocks have 6
332/352/360/361/390/391/406/410/427/428 FEs have 5
and 239/256/272/292/312 Y blocks use but 2.
