Are these modules plug and play, or do they require more programming once installed?
I got my truck back yesterday from the local shop (not a Ford dealer) and it doesn't work any better than before. I'm thinking the module will need to be replaced, but would prefer to install myself, as long as it doesn't need programming.
You have to program it but can purchase an FDRS license for $50 (72 hour) if you have a compatible interface. It's recommended to buy a Mongoose cable for around $500 but I've gotten away with using a "cheaper" interface which is around $200. I would highly recommend the Mongoose though if you plan on doing regular repair and updates.
The dealer indicated they needed to program it to my truck. No clue what's involved with that or if it can be done with Forscan or not.
I noticed on FordPass that the telematics module received an OTA update on 2/22. I've only driven the truck a short distance since then and didn't really notice anything. It's update TCU 24.2.5.9 and is supposedly "enhances the vehicle's ability to maintain connectivity and location services".
I'm guessing it's a normal update and not related to my recent TCU replacement.
Anyone else received the update and notice any difference?
My TCU went out last week. Ford said that when Radio Amp was installed by another vendor they leaned on the TCU unit and messed up the pin connections on the unit. On the screen if you are showing a Modem number , its working. The next issue is the TCU. I have read that pulling the TCU fuse (space 38) ,does a hard reset, it might clear up the fault. Will try that today, rain permitting. If it fails the only thing the TCU does is communicate your Ford Pass info to phone, cant unlock it, remote start it, GPS , all convivence items. I have resorted to use Goole play app on my truck , works fine. New TCU and labor to install, $1200.00. What all does a used one entail?? Is it plug and play or will have to spend $500.00 for labor to program the used one to my truck?
