Died in flight, lost spark. Following the FSM testing procedures, the Coil is good, PIP is good, module is good. Cap/rotor & all that is good. But Still no spark.
Have power to both sides of the coil. No ground being flashed to make it spark.
What the hell?
At this point I think I'm looking for a broken wire, or a short in the harness, but I'm not sure which wires i should be focusing on.
There are a few tricks of the trade
One is to plug in a spare module
First step is checking key on power at the positive side of the ignition coil
2nd step is checking for a blinking light on the negative side of the coil with the engine cranking
Don't know how you did it, but that above step is checking the stator or pip signal
These test modules are how we used to drive the dead ones in the shop when they came in on a hook or flatbed
Then the real ignorant ones, we used a spare distributor to quickly make one spark with a dead stator
Of course, at the dealer we had crate motors laying around we could take distributors and modules off of
Good luck
Spent most of the afternoon yesterday doing everything I could think of. Finally started cutting the harness apart and wouldn't you know it, found some previously hacked up bull****. Straightened out and repaired the coil wiring, and it stated right up again. Ran for 30 minutes without dying before I shut it off.
That's why I discourage frankentruck projects in here. In 5 years there will be somebody else trying to figure out why his truck doesn't run right and the previous owner was in a forum trying to figure out how to add this or remove that "the cheapest way possible".
