My 2000 Excursion has a brake fluid/cruise switch recall on it from 2005. I talked to my dealer, parts are no longer available for the recall.

According to the video, they could buy your Excursion for what the industry thinks it's worth. It's just a pressure switch, a type that has been in use for decades. It's easy to find in the aftermarket, but if you go that route, put an in-line fuse on it.

Dealer said to check to see if cruise works, it does and to see if brake fluid is leaking, it is not. He said if it was he could dig deeper.

Parts for Chargers and Challengers with the big Hemis seem to be on perpetual backorders, like head gaskets according to what I have read, I think part of that is Stelantis turmoil. Tesla does also not keep a lot of spare parts.

There was a time where Mercedes had parts available even for old models' When I was fixing my mother's 1997 C280 I needed a resonator valve for a check engine light issue, discontinued. I did find one on EBay and I also have a spare I got off pick and pull car.

What is really going to kill cars is the electronic modules, many modules and manufacturers do not allow for reprogramming if used. Simple things like power steering modules will put a car into the scrapyard and that is part of the manufacturer's plan as their idea of life of a vehicle is different than ours.

Most of my cars are mutts or so old the manufacturers don't care, fortunately the Excursion mechanicals are available either OEM or aftermarket, for now.

I agree that electronics will cause vehicles to have a shorter lifetime than all the other components. However, the time a specific platform is in production (total sales volume) also matters.

I do think there are many opportunities for people that know how to repair electronics to specialize in auto modules, the issue will be the programming and serial number as builts being applied. Companies like "Circuit Board Medics" are able to assist us with repairs on obsolete parts but only on a limited basis.

The issue with the pressure switches is leaking brake fluid, which causes a short (electrical positive to switch body) and fire. The correction is a new switch and a harness with an in-line fuse. A fuse can be added to the wiring if the TSB was never done. A simple safety upgrade.

I did the IPR thing for a while and got rid of it, went back to stock. Complete waste of money.

Hope they really do have them. I am finding that MANY times, parts are said to be in stock on the systems , but really aren't.
