Does anyone out there have a diagram or information about the location for all of the body, frame and engine ground wires/straps? I was under my Excursion a little wile ago looking at where I want to put the external fuel filter when I do the Hutch Mod this spring and I noticed that a braided body-to-frame grounding strap was completely corroded away. Given the age, I'd like to go ahead and just replace all of the grounding straps/wires. I'm thinking I might also like to replace the battery ground wires as well, can anyone recommend a good source for replacements?
I don't have an EX, but did the same with my 250, sorta like an Easter egg hunt. Couple engine to body in the engine compartment, one or two underneath body to frame. I made my own, got a roll of zinc plated copper ground strap, I went one size larger. You can also add additional grounds
. I did.
Unfortunately I've had very mixed success with Amazon and quality parts. In talking with someone in the know, Amazon puts the 'same' product from different sellers into the same bin. So you could get a quality OEM part, or you could get a cheap, low quality chinese knock-off.
I want my Excursion to last as long as possible, so I try to go with known quality parts for the things that really matter.
JF, I think we all know where you are coming from, we want to go with the best we can afford, but in this situation it might be overkill. You can get a 15 ft roll of 3M/ Scotch grounding strap for $130 or an imported roll for $30. Both are plated copper ground material .
Of course with the 3M you do get the material certificate in case the Space Shuttle explodes.
I found no issues with the imported strapping I got off Amazon, it was plated copper, in correct thickness.
Where I don't skimp is with the connectors, I always use 3M, Molex, T&B etc
