none of them make any sense. the truck that looks like a brick on wheels? nope, not a brick either.
first gen, 247th gen? just call it by it's freakin year!!!!
The real flare side stopped being made by Ford in 86.
Real flare sides had chains that held the tail gate closed besides rear fenders that bolted to the bed sides.
Yes Ford did have a bed for a few years after 86 they called a flare side but it was a fiber glass sides and fenders molded as one unit.
Also the tail gate worked and looked just like the style side bed trucks ........ no chains for the gate!

I have a 92 Flair Side, and they don't have stake pockets either.
Bed sides are closed in so you can't even mount a shell on it unless you drill into the top of the bed rails and use something like lag bolts, yes that's what the previous owner of my truck used.

Generation makes perfect sense. It is a body style change and includes all the years with that body style.

1988 f-150 4x4 manual trans extra cab long bed. is it a bull nose. step side, or what?
It sounds like you have a pretty normal 'supercab' 155" 153" frame Ford pickup-
I'm a little confused where the 'ranger tailgate' bed discussion came from.
