Hello all, I'm trying to check my pip sensor signal on my 94 f150 5.0. I saw how to do it on EasyAutoDiagnostic.com but I can't find this light everywhere I check it's sold out. Does anyone know where I can purchase one or an alternative one that would work or an alternative method to check pip sensor that would work r? Any help greatly appreciated....
All you need is a basic test light on the ignition coil negative terminal, and see if it blinks while cranking
Any basic 12 volt test light will do
You are looking for that light to blink while cranking, indicating a pip signal
For some reason the easy auto diagnostic guy says that the PIP signal test has to be done with an LED light.
I don't know why. Is the PIP signal faster than the processed grounding of the coil?
One other way to test the PIP signal is to go to the PIP signal wire coming out of the Ignition Control Module and slowly rotate the engine and see if the voltage varies, on a regular volt meter. (Edit: Do not use a volt meter on the PIP signal wire. Damage to the PIP sensor will occur. See second post below this one.)
SECOND EDIT: Read post number 10 for the correct answer.
The PIP sensor is a low amperage device. If you try to use a normal incandescent test light, it will damage the PIP by drawing too much current. Hence the reason you must use a LED.

Would a volt meter damage the PIP sensor, if used to test voltage at the Ignition Control Module PIP wire, while slowly rotating the engine?
No. A volt meter won't hurt it. Volt meter has very high resistance so it doesn't flow much current. But I don't know if a volt meter will tell you what you want to know. You want to verify the PIP is sending a rhythmic 'fire' signal to the ICM. An LED is a good tool for this as you can watch the 'fire' pulses happen consistently. If it's erratic, that's a sign of a failing PIP.

To answer the OPs question, you can use something like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/39232276218...mis&media=COPY
The positive side of the led gets connected to the batteries 12v post. The negative side of the led goes to the #6 wire on the ICM.
