So I have a 1989 ford f150 5.8 4x4 drive train that I’m swaping in a 1990 body I’m using the original cab harness of the 1990 and the engine harness of 1989 the 02 sensor plugs are the same plug but the 89 has 3 wires and the 1990 has 4 wires that are different colors then the 89 what should I do also does anyone have a picture of where the plug location is of the o2 sensor the one I’m talking about is located near the battery off the starter solenoid just wana make sure I have the right plug This is the plugs I’m talking about the wires don’t match up the one with the green wire is off the 89 and the one with the orange wire is the cab harness off the 1990
The connector in your picture is the O2 sensor connector.
You need the 4 wire "extension" from the 1990 truck, and a 4 wire O2 sensor.
That extension follows the starter wires, down toward the O2 sensor.
I'm not looking at a wiring diagram right now, but it looks like 1990 is when they went to a 4 wire O2 sensor.
I'm assuming your using the '90 computer.
Same with the fuel pump wiring
You need the 1989 harness with the 3 fuel pumps wiring
Check out the other thread he responded in. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1528965-convert-a-89-fuel-system-to-a-1990-fuel-system.html The 1990 truck, that he's putting the motor into, will be set up for the in tank pumps and no high pressure pump on the frame.
So, he can use the '89 computer and the only difference should be after the inertia switch, there won't be a provision for a frame mounted fuel pump.
Sorry just seen this so u don’t think I could plug the 3 wire 02 sensor in tho the 4 wire harness and it work since the 3 wires are there the 4th would be just a dead wire right that’s not pined on the pcm and the fule tanks worked fine with no change in any wires plugged it up and it primed and pumps so I think I’m good there
And yes I did see thoses ground on the 1990 both ground go into a crimped on loop that screws to the support I will cut them and put two grinds two the battery does it matter witch ground ones go to the battery because there is 3 connected to the crimped on loop and the 89 had one on the loop and one on the support

As long as everything is the same potential, I don't think it matters if you go to the fender or the battery negative.
The battery negative is the most direct ground, but obviously other grounds are connected to the fender or radiator support, etc.
If you connect at the fender, take a volt meter, and test from the battery positive post to the battery negative post, then test battery positive post to the fender ground point. The voltage should be the same.

I would have to look at a pin out of the different years' connections.
Ok I will do that good thinking sorry for the dumb question just trying to get this thing on the road it starts and idles but it was running rough like a misfire and died alittle after but I’m thinking due to not having the 02 sensor hooked up pcm isn’t reading right
