Auto locking hub vacuum lines

Waiting on my 2025 F-250 SD XLT Tremor. Until then, making a list of to-do and mods for when it arrives. High on my list is replacing the OEM auto locking hubs with Warn hubs. I’ve done some research on this, and am familiar with how manual locking hubs work, but have one burning question. Why do the vacuum lines need to be capped? I understand the Warn hubs will not have an auto lock feature, but what would the harm be in leaving the vacuum lines as is? I would prefer to leave them as I will most likely reinstall the OEM hubs when the time comes to sell. TIA

You cap them so you don't have a vacuum leak when you actuate 4 wheel drive and to keep water and dirt out. Its just a rubber cap that can be removed when reinstalling the OEM hubs.

Forgive my ignorance, but where would the leak occur? I guess I don’t see the difference between having vacuum lines in place versus having the lines capped. Either way, the system should be sealed, or am I missing something?

You think it's a good thing to just have an open rubber tube have air/water/salt/dirt sucked into it for months and months until you decide to re-install the OEM hubs?
Them lines would be pretty gunked up by then, I could imagine.
The WARN hubs come with caps, but you could always just throw them away I guess, if capping the hoses irks you so much...

Once again, if the lines are left in place, where exactly would the leak occur? I can’t imagine the Warn hubs leak any more or less than OEM. Thank you for your useful response.

the issue is that you don't have to disconnect the vacuum lines when you install the warns. No need to csp them off if you dont disconnect them. If you choose to remove the vacuum lines, Then by all means cap it off.

The vacuum pump is located on the upper portion of the front cover and is driven by the high pressure fuel pump.

Vacuum is used by the EGR cooler bypass system, the brake booster on vehicles equipped with vacuum operated power brakes, and the 4x4 locking hubs on 4-wheel drive vehicles.
