AOD won’t shift

Got a 91 f150 with a 302 and aod. Just put the aod in the guy I bought it from said it was good. I got it in. Test drove the truck to my buddies place. Seemed to shift ok on the way there maybe a tad sluggish, sat for a half hour. And on the way back no shift. Just first gear. The tv cable isn’t broke and is tight. Arm seems to move fine when I hit the throttle. I have no idea what’s going on

Wrong flexplate or fluid level is low.
What trans was in the truck before this AOD? If it was an E4OD and the flexplate wasn't changed to an AOD specific version(different offset) then the current trans is now ruined.

It had an AOD in it before. So the flex plate is correct. The fluid level is full of not a bit high. The tv cable linkage is hooked up correctly. I never did a filter change but I wouldn’t think that would cause no shift

Sure cable not too tight? This will delay shifts like if your are into the throttle more. Check at the throttle body before driving more and have someone eye the TV linkage on the case for full range of motion.

Could be valve body issue, but who knows with a used unit.

The trans is very sensitive to the TV cable setting, it has to be in the correct range to prevent slipping. There is an adjuster at the throttle linkage, the starting point is with all the slack removed from the cable at the closed throttle position. With this setting the trans should run through all the gears, if shifts are late and harsh back off 1 notch on the adjuster, if the shifts are soft and early increase tension on the cable 1 notch and then test drive. Repeat until you find the best compromise position, in my experience this trans lasts longer with slightly firmer shifts but every one behaves slightly different.
