CHT functions help

Dear Ford Truckers,

for a 2003 F250 5.4 petrol,
What ECU functions does the CHT actually effect, and how??

Cold starts?
AirCon functioning??

My recent engine rebuild with TrickFlow heads has no position to install the stock CHT.
Can I run without one?
Can anyone suggest how I might be able to run one?

Thanks in advance!

Moving along, I am using an excellent aftermarket Coolant Temp & Oil Pressure gauge, with colour change at pre-set levels, plus beeping alarms for ultra high reading alarms.
If I want to make the factory ECM happy, what do I need to feed instead of the sensor to give me a "middle of the dash temp gauge" reading??
Resistor for a set Ohms? other????

OK....UPDATE

After researchining on the interwebs, it seems that at 90degreesC, the ECU expects to see 2780 Ohms at the CHT sensor.

After a trip to the electronics store, I had a resistor in line instead of the sensor.

I used my OBD2 App to clear codes - only the one for the CHT sensor - and CEL went out, and AirCon started working again!!!!

OBD2 App showed Coolant Temp as 90 degreesC, as per the Ohmage of the resistor.
Dash "Gauge" is still showing zero, regardless of the actual temp of the engine.

Any ideas?

Is the CHT varying resistance to ground?

I have aftermarket TrickFlow heads.
They have NO PLACE for a CHT.
To add to the challenge, my engine guy threw out the original CHT sensor.....
I am trying to run without any CHT. It stops A/C blowing, and it reached 42 degrees C here in Melbourne Australia last week.
Instead of the CHT, I have looped a 2750Ohm resistor beteen the 2 wires from the wiring loom to "tell" the ECU that we have 90 degrees C head temp.....
Doing this had got the A/C working again - and I can see "90 degreesC" on my OBD2 App.

Now the only part not working is the actual dash gauge.

Yes, we got that. Your resistor is not screwed into a grounded head like a real CHT. I'm wondering if the OEM CHT uses that ground, or it's insulated from its grounded threads?

@projectSHO89 any thoughts?

edit: I guess you could take your output wire and ground it -- see if the gauge does anything
