I am starting a complete rebuild of my 2000 5.4. Does anyone have any links or articles that you know of that i should read. Any good books? Any tips or things i should know from your experience? I will do alot of searching but thought i would ask for your knowledge. I have good mechanical skills but never did a complete tear down and rebuild. The reason i am doing this is cause i had one of the rod bearings go bad and start knocking. Thanks for sharing any of your experience with a young guy and for any of your help.
If you have the money I'd put '03+ 8 thread spark plug hole heads back on. Since yours are PI I bet you could sell them and take a good chunk out of the '03 head cost. There are a lot of 4.6L books out there and they will give you some help, since the 5.4L is a taller stroked 4.6L more or less.

Just out of curiosity, what will the improvement be by doing the '03 heads? I was not aware of the need for the re design. I have a 2000 with the 5.4 and sometime down the road may be in the same boat, so it helps to know these things. Thanks
The pre-'03s have 4 threads for the spark plugs and are prone to spit them out because of it.
Only four threads?! No wonder Ford re thought this issue. Thanks for the info, I will try to remember this if I cross the rebuild bridge in the future.
