Does this look normal for wear on spark plug with about 2,000 miles on it?I thought it looked awful black around the threaded part?It is a Champion H10C and all of them look like this.My truck is stock flathead 8RT and has been missing occasionally.I put a set of Autolite 216's in and don't seem to be missing so far.
A dry black I don't think is a big deal. That's typical carbon. If it was a wet, gummy, gunky black, that would be a different story resulting from oil leaking past valve seals or rings. The tan on the electrode looks normal. These are not efficient engines compared to today's electronic controlled wonders. Back in the day, engines required a tune up, replacing plugs, points and condensers, a couple times a year. That part hasn't changed much for our trucks that are stock and driven regularly. My 2c.
Here's an original old sign that hung in a gas station somewhere explaining what plugs should and shouldn't look like.
I'd say they look normal, too. You could try leaning out your idle jets, the Holleys are set up pig-fat in the idle circuits. The flatheads idle really smoothly that way, but careful leaning will give you a smooth idle and better MPG.
IMO Champions (especially the H-10's) are suitable for lawnmowers and snowblowers, not much else. The Autolites have had much better quality control, tho I'm sad to see they are now Hecho en Chine.
