I have a 00 f250 5.4 4x4 auto. Transmission got extremely hot one day so I pulled over let it cool off and then took it home. I then changed the fluid and filter put a trans temperature gauge and it drove fine for a couple of weeks then it started maxing the gauge out. Shortly after it started squealing in low gear and when you would put it in reverse it would buck really badly so I bought a used transmission and torque converter and put in it. After about a week the torque convertor was staying locked in and would kill the motor. I then bought a brand new torque convertor put it in same as original. When it's cold it drives fine forwards and backwards. But when it warms up it starts squealing in low gear and bucking in reverse. Replaced the solenoid pack this weekend no joy. I'm stuck at this point. Any advice on what to try next? Sorry about the long post.
Get Forscan free at www.forscan.org. Their page shows how to select an adapter to plug into the OBDII port. I bought mine from Amazon for about $30. If you're just going to read codes you don't need to buy a license. It will read all of the codes in all modules of the truck.
[QUOTE=Mark Kovalsky;21428422]Changing ANY parts without first reading the codes is almost always a waste of time and money, but you've already learned that.
Read the codes and then we can help diagnose what's really wrong. There was probably nothing wrong with the original transmission.[/QUOTE
ok i finally got a code reader. I'm getting a p1000 a p0781 and a p0782 code i tried to drive it around the block and it's making a grinding noise in low gear and I have to hold it on the floor in reverse then it bucks badly. I'm thinking time for a new transmission?
