02 SuperDuty with 4R100 trans. The other night while driving home, the OD off light started flashing. Drove normal for the most part but RPM did seem slightly higher than normal and had 1 really hard shift (2-3) Checked the following morning and it threw a P0741 code for Torque Convertor Clutch solenoid. Next morning, I cleared the code and test drove it, no light and acting totally normal. Went to leave, backed out the driveway and put it in D and I had zero gears... no forward, no reverse. Shut it off, grab my laptop and ForScan and that same code is back, but when I started it up, had all my gears again. Drove it down the street and lost them all again. Shut it off and start it right back up, gears are back but slipping significantly.
Question now is, could the TCC solenoid acting up cause me to loose ALL gears and get them back by simply shutting it off, or is there a greater issue going on here?
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated
side note:
Ttrans has a large capacity pan and 6.0L cooler. Fluid is full, clean and does not smell burnt at all.
Truck does have a Hydra tuner on it and runs the “daily driver” tune almost exclusively. It’s been a while since it’s towed period let alone towed heavy.
Trans almost always runs at 135-150. Highest I’ve ever seen, while towing heavy was 180-190, but that was 3yrs ago.

Can you read transmission data? Read the command signals and see what you have. Bad ground, loose connection are things to look for to start with. Is the shift indication on the data the same as what the position of the shifter is?

well, if it can be done through ForScan, then I have the ability…… knowledge on how to access would be the question. I’ll monkey around with it tomorrow and see what I can figure out.
There is NOTHING electronic that can cause no gears. Checking wiring, grounds, solenoids, etc, is a lot of fun, but a complete waste of time. You will never find this problem checking the electrical system.
The only way this could happen is if there is no pressure on the clutches. This could be due to low fluid, a loose or missing filter, a big internal leak (loose feed bolts can cause this), or a bad pump.

Mark, thank you for the response and clarification but if I may go a further. What could potentially make it go gears…. No gears…. Shut it off… gears are back…. Then no gears…. Then slipping gears? That’s the point I parked it and started researching.
Will be digging deeper in the next day or two. At this point, I will drop the pan, TCC solenoid pack, valve body etc and check those feed bolts. And just to be clear, that $500 TCC solenoid pack is more than likely not the issue, correct?
I've already said it CANNOT be anything electronic. Is the solenoid an electronic part? If so, then it is 100% impossible to be that (or any other) solenoid.
The way that it has gears then doesn't have gears would be if there is no pressure on the clutches. This could be due to low fluid, a loose or missing filter, a big internal leak (loose feed bolts can cause this), or a bad pump.
