I'll jump in here on the 3.00 gears... NO! My 66 F100 when I got it had the 240, I went through all the mechanicals and started driving him, I live in the mtns, so I'm either going up or going down, when I'd make a run to Fresburg he was "ok" but just lacking, I figured the 240 was tired, found a 302 I was going to drop in, had a noise in the rear end, pulled the 9" and found I had 3.00's mind you, I have a T18 with granny first gear, so I had to use that to get going... found a guy with 3.70's that wanted 3.00's (remember to look at spline count) I swapped in the 3.70's WOW!!! What a HUGE improvement in drivability and pep!! Brought the rpms up into the sweet spot, mileage went up and the fun factor! I still have that 302 sitting in my shop My other 300's all had 4.10's, and with 33's they were perfect, as I said, my 79 F250 4x I drove from Ca to MO averaged 18+ for 1800 miles, granted I kept it between 55-65, but that's the happy spot I found for him, Shrek my 66 F100 likes 55-60.
If you're going to rebuild your 9" I highly suggest going to 3.70's+ depending on tire size...

Thanks! I’ll take advice even from a leather neck :-)
it’s a 2wd with 29” tires, which I like that size. They are just cheap Toyo’s mini van tires but only 3 years old and 90% tread. Once those wear out I’ll put a decent set of AT truck tires on it. I am sure she is a little embarrassed rolling on mini van tires.
ill have do the math for the tire size and rpm range I want to be at but somewhere around 3.50’s should be the sweet spot. A nice balance between town/backroad long distance trips.
My son is 3 right now (my daughter is in collage) but hoping he likes camping/fishing and dirt/mountain biking like me. I think it would be awesome to take lots of dad and son trip in the truck. Time will tell.
this truck’s name is Spirit since it’s a 76 and I was born on 4th of July 1976.
I built a white 68 mustang, her name is Cinderella since it was my dream car and she is white.

Well... that's not always advisable we do chew on crayons for snacks...
My dd is a hp 300. I also have a ZF5 manual trans. My rear gears are 3.31 (can never remember the correct number). I have poor low end power and am wanting to swap in a 3.73 but have been waiting to do a 05+ superduty rear in order to get the parking brake.

seems like the ZF5 is a popular swap, unless I start long distance drives all the time I think the column shift is cool/different.
