power steering locking up?

on cold mornings my power steering does not work usually when turning left and sometime both ways for the first few minutes and then it loosens up and everything is fine. is the pump shot or can it be repaired? or is it something else? belt is new and tight. thanks for any advice.

I'll have to ask. What is a J-10? A Jeep?

Does this vehicle have a rack and pinion steering unit?

OK, if its an 82 Jeep pickup, I would not think it has a rack and pinion steering unit.

It could be the power steering pump going bad. Does it whine while doing this?

no it does not whine or squeal at all. it only acts up for about 2 minutes after warm up
