Radiator removal

Hi gang;

I was wondering if any of you had heard of this problem. I have a slow leak in the radiator of my 460. I took it to a radiator shop and he said this is common in older fords. He said it is the gasket in between the tanks and radiator core. I guess it would be about as easy to remove it and take it in for repair. Is this hard to get out? Automatic and A/C.

Thanks

Frank

No its easy.

Just becareful not to cut yourself on the fan, it is somehow razor sharp. Just unscrew the shroud, drain fluid, remove hoses, disconnect radiator cooler lines(use a tube nut flare wrench only also side note if hard to get off, just get a tubing cutter and cut the lines so you have enough room to flare the cut ends and when installing splice back with hose and clamps) remove upper hold downs, and pull straight up.

I'assuming you have the aluminum core with plastic tanks on each side?

Yes it is common for them to leak after they get some age on them. I have had to replace two of them, I found it was not much more expensive to just replace them with a Modine replacement, compared to the labor cost of splitting the tanks from the core and re-sealing them. Plus I had a lifetime warranty with the re-placements. But in my area we don't have much in the line of radiator shops.
