OK disclaimer - this inquiry is not even in reference to a Ford truck, it's more "generic". But I trust this community, so asking here. Looking for info on solar battery maintainters / tenders. This is for a 1998 Chevy 1-ton crew-cab dually gasser, so I reckon it's a 454. Single battery, 690 CCA. The truck gets very infrequent use, and is parked about 80 feet from the nearest power outlet. So I was thinking about using one of these devices with the truck facing south. Not a lot of reviews on YT or elsewhere, and haven't found any with real-life experience. So looking for anyone who's had good, or bad, experience with particular products. TIA.
This summer the battery on our 2 year old whole house generator needed charging.I charged it with a 120 volt charger. Generator will run 5 minutes a week automatically and probably 15 hours total during the 2 year time span. Didn’t do much research but ended up buying the below solar charger. It has been installed for about 6 months. Generator starts every week for the 5 minute run, but I would assume the battery would have done this without the solar charger as it has been only 6 months. More time is needed to see how it maintains the charge. I got the 1.5 volt solar charger. Hard wired it to the battery and it set at about a 45 degree angle on top of the generator.
i have been using the harbor freight version of that solar charger for close to 20 years now on the snow plow trucks.
they can sit for 9-10 months and still dire rite off with fully charged batteries.
