I spent almost three months in Australia and would recommend it to anyone. Since you and I both like scuba diving, go up to Cairns and sign up for week long excursion on a dive boat cruising the Great Barrier Reef; you will never forget this adventure. Go to Sydney and go inside the opera house, climb to the observation deck on the big bridge, check out Powerhouse Museum, go to manly beach and check out the women; at night walk down and look around Kings Cross (ie, the red light district). Go down and look around Melbourne and then drive east to Geelong; they have a Ford assembly plant there but I'm not sure if it is today but if it's there take a tour. That's the plant that made the funny looking Capri converts back in the early 1990's. Drive the Great Ocean Road and bring your camera because you'll see some of the most incredible scenery in the whole world. Trust me, your three months will go very fast; I've only scratched the surface.
Don't start another project. Those are for keeping your sanity, while you are off from work. You need to really take advantage of the time you have off. You might never have 2 months off again. Make a list of things to do and places you've always wanted to go.
Better yet, take your dad or mom on a trip. Have a great walkabout together. Rekindle what you and your dad have. Go on a long fishing trip, or go rent a ferrari nd drive on the AutoBahn.
Just no water or snow sports if you go alone, too dangerous.
